ABOUT DAVID FAVELA

From immigrant roots to ecosystem builder

David Favela is a first-generation American who turned early challenges in school into a lifelong commitment to learning and leadership. After earning a master's degree from UC San Diego, he spent more than 20 years at Hewlett-Packard.

He later founded Border X Brewing in Barrio Logan, which grew into one of the most visible Latino-owned craft breweries in the country and helped catalyze community revitalization.

Today, as Director of UC San Diego’s Talent Foundry, David leads a grant-funded business stimulator that targets startups in underrepresented communities.
